Finding Students

We are building a strong incentive for students to "build a reputation" on Tethys Engineering as the information shared is the primary mean by which businesses will look for and select the perfect candidate, short term and long term.

Business participants can search this information by selecting "My Tethys/Students/Search student reputation"

This "reputation" framework  fundamentally achieves two objectives,

  1. creates an appealing and detailed view of one's capabilities in order to attract the interest of various businesses,
  2. collects feedback from various projects and skills developed along the way

Overtime this collection of information will enrich someone's profile and be extremely valuable to business seeking ideal candidates. Until then, the businesses might use the basic searching capabilities of Tethys Engineering and review student's basic profile info.

Eventually, the "reputation building tool and apprenticeship diary" will provide a level of insight on engineering candidates that will go far beyond what can be captured on a resume. It will also provide authenticity as the information collected is not someone 's own opinion of him/herself but the feedback of the businesses you have worked with.

There are three key components to building a reputation on Tethys Engineering. Two of those components will be "reviewable" by the business professionals a student has worked with.

  1. Experiences: This component is intended to capture the fundamental job experience a student has gained over time. It defines the work environment (i.e., industry, company, segment), the role played, and the results/outputs delivered.
  2. Know-how: This component captures the skills and expertise acquired as one accumulates experiences. This could include tools, software, processes, ... learned and mastered. It essentially defines the level of proficiency developed in certain areas important to employers.
  3. Achievements: This last component captures the formal recognitions received. We have defined two different kinds: academic and professional. The academic recognitions naturally include the degrees obtained and all other formal accreditation received from various learning institutions. The professional recognitions are the formal badges of honor, certificates, or any other form of professional accreditation received from an employer or the employer internal learning programs.

The first two components described above are subject to reviews. It is important that business professional take the time to provide feedback and provide formal reviews at the end of a certain effort realized.

This information is captured on "cards" that are shown on every student's profile under the heading "My listing". It is also searchable across all profiles. Every field available in the database can be used to refine filters and narrow down the result to very few candidates.
